Singapore Tourism Board (STB) Malaysia and Brunei has appointed Brandthink PR in Malaysia for PR and digital consultancy services. The appointment is for a period of two years with an option to extend for one year, according to Gebiz.

A total of six agencies were vying for the account including Bonsey Jaden Malaysia, Burson Cohn & Wolfe, Lewis Communication, Suppadgood PR and Xavier Mah Consultancy. In a tender document seen by A+M previously, the appointed agency will be required to develop and present a recommended 12-month PR and marketing communications plan for STB Malaysia on the MICE segment.

Some of the other tasks are to develop and present a digital marketing activation to drive awareness and conversion to the International Champions Cup that takes place in Singapore. The appointed agency is also required to have a strong relationship with traditional and new media in Malaysia, to ensure that it is able to offer holistic and focused media support for STB's initiatives.

During the first quarter of 2019 (Q1 2019), Singapore recorded the sharpest decline in tourism receipts from Malaysia (34%) compared to the same period last year, contributing SG$155 million. This was despite Malaysia coming in fourth in Singapore's top five international visitor-generating markets, with about 283,000 visitors during Q1 2019.
